Hi,When I want to install new applications such as visio, proofing tools for office, and more I get an access denied error. Smoething must be messed up witht he windows installer or something. Below i've tried to install SP1 for Visual Studio 2008 but it also fails with the following error message. Any help would be much appreciated. :)Returning IDOK. Right-click on an application which you want to install and select "Run as administrator", temporarily disable or uninstall your antivirus software. My English is not very well.

Hi Morten,Also just an additional thing,would you happen to have changed the windows installer behavior via Group policy object? if so browse through options and set to not configured all windows installer settings afterwards switch back to old settings...hope this helps,RR

I've tried running it as administrator, that makes no difference. And I haven't changed the windows installer behavior via group policy object. Is there a way I can check just in case and how do I reset it to default?/Morten

I worked it out, but I'm not sure what did it. I'm using IDrive backup solution and I've read about some people experiencing this problem when running Carbonite. S I disabled this application as well as deleted the Config.Msi folder and recreated it and set administrators to full control and also all childs - now it works. I also unregged and regged the msi installer.So I'm not sure which of the 3 fixed the problem :)

Same here. Idrive was the culprit. Stopping the Idrive services fixed the problem.

Hey guys, I've figured out exactly what messes up the Config.Msi folder that stops you from installing or uninstalling software such ast Microsoft Expression Web 3.This is what you need to do.1. Shut off all of your Antivirus software.2. Turn off firewall such as ZoneAlarm Pro.3. Delete the old Config.Msi folder.4. Create a NEW Config.Msi folder.5. Right click on the new Config.Msi folder and choose properties.6. Go to the "Security" tab and give FULL permissions to "Authenticated Users" & "Users (XXXX\Users)"7. Click ok to close everything out and try reinstalling or installing. This is only when you run into the writing error to the Config.Msi folder.Good luck!

Sorry I haven't replied back to this. But the culprit here for me was iDrive which i uninstalled and then everything worked as intended. Look for something that locks your files, such as a backup program or the like.

I thought it might be that my flash drive was just too fast, but some installs go fine and others fail. I use iDrive for backups. I did not have to uninstall though, I just stopped the "IDriveE Service" service during the install and it went fine. Again, thanks so much!

I have tried everything for the past 14 hours and I can't get Adobe Photoshop CS4 to load on my Vista computer! I keep getting the error 1310. error writing to file c config.msi I did the delete/create new folder. I make sure permissions were all full. I uninstalled Carbonite. But, STILL. It will not work. I even set ownership to the config.msi folder. Will NOT work. What gives?

I always get errors installing/uninstalling software on Win7. Good grief! Why can't things just do what they're supposed to do!! Is that so much to ask?! I hate you Bill Gates!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

This is how I fix this problem, I don't have IDrive service installed , I don't have a problem with config.msi and I dont' have any anit software running. 1: Disable a few services windows firewall, windows defender and windows backup. 2: First just choose office components word, ppt and excel.-- Installed ok. 3: Then install the rest of the components. -- Installed ok. It take me two days to figure this out-- I first had a problem extracting the office 2010 installation file --X16-32250.exe. I always got "installation of this package failed" I had to move this file from an IDE drive to a USB drive and installed from there ( still need to try a few times). I totally aggree with you that Windows Vista is so bad that I cannot install MS's own producent on this OS. I clean installed OS a few times but the problem still remained. Now I still cannot install Vista SP2. SIgh........
